OREANDA-NEWS. May 8, 2009. In January-April 2009, Odessa Commercial Seaport handled 9.98 million tonnes of cargo (-17%, year-on-year), the company’s press center reports.

The company attributes the decrease to lower handling of liquid bulk cargo. In January-April 2009 the port handled 4.309 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-34.3%, year-on-year). Oil transshipment fell by 57%, transshipment of technical oil – by 62.1%. In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo fell by 28.1%, containers – by 51.3%, Vikna Odesy reports.

At the same time transshipment of dry cargo increased by 3.9% to 5.67 million tonnes. Transshipment of dry bulk climbed by 130.4% (ore – by 312.1%, grain cargo – by 131.7%).

In April 2009, the company handled 2.629 million tonnes of cargo (-10.6%, year-on-year). In the first quarter of 2009 the company’s throughput fell by 19%, year-on-year.

Odessa seaport is located in the south-western part of Odessa Bay at reclaimed territory covering 109.5 hectares. The capacity of the company’s facilities enables it to handle over 14 million tonnes of dry cargo and 24 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo annually. The port accepts vessels with length up to 270 m and draft up to 13 m. Total length of the berths is over 8 km. In the first quarter of 2009, Odessa Commercial Seaport handled 7.352 million tonnes of cargo.
