OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2009. One more important stage of the construction of the 2nd unit of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant is over. On May 12 2009 the constructors launched the reloader and on May 13 at 08:30 AM installed the first fuel assembly mock-up in the reactor.

When all 163 fuel assemblies are charged and the technological systems are ready, the reactor will undergo hydro-testing.

General Inspector of Energoatom Concern OJSC, the manager of the commissioning o the 2nd unit of Rostov NPP Erik Pozdyshev said: “It was one more important stage of the project and it was preceded by a number of crucial operations: preparation of the reactor, adjustment of the roloader and testing of the whole technological chain. And now the whole complex is working.”

Fueling of reactor core is carried out by a special mechanism – reloader. The reloader of the 2nd unit has been manufactured by Afrikantov OKBM, its software by Diakont (St.Petersburg).

Volgodonsk NPP is branch of Energoatom Concern OJSC, 100% subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC. The plant is situated in Volgodonsk, Rostov region. The 1st unit of Volgodonsk NPP with WWER-1000 V-320 reactor was commissioned in 2001.

Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt (NIAEP) is part of Atomenergoprom OJSC, a holding consolidating the civil assets of Russia’s nuclear power industry and offering a full package of products and services in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy: from uranium mining to nuclear reactor construction and power generation. The coordinator of the project is the branch of Energoatom Concern OJSC, Department for Capital Construction of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.

Over 3,000 people are involved in the project for the moment.
