OREANDA-NEWS. May 27, 2009. In late 2010-early 2011 Hungary is going to announce a tender for the construction of new nuclear power plants and to invite Russia to take part in them, Director General of Paks Nuclear Power Plant Janos Suli said during a press-conference today.

The preparations for the construction will be finished by 2014. The first reactor will be launched in 2020. Suli said that Hungary was not going to borrow money from the EU for the projects.

“We will not ask for money from the EU, nor will we ask for budgetary financing. However, 50% + 1 stake in the new plants will belong to the government,” Suli said.

Director of Atomstroyexport CJSC Dan Belenkiy said that his company was going to take part in the Hungarian tender.

“Yes, of course, we will take part in this tender,” he said.

Hungarian Paks NPP is one of the safest nuclear power plants in the world. The four WWER-440 reactors of the plant were built with the support of the Soviet Union in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986.
