OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2009. In January-May 2009, Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP OJSC) handled 2.123 million tonnes of cargo (-20.3%, year-on-year), the company states.  In May the company handled 503,100 tonnes of cargo (-28.3%, year-on-year).

In the 5-month period, transshipment of export cargo totaled 1,510,9 tonnes; import - 310,100 tonnes; coastal trade cargo – 302,400. The port’s container terminal handled 71,625 TEU including 24,911 TEU of coastal trade cargo, 21,390 TEU of import cargo and 25,324 TEU of export cargo.

In May, the company exported 382,200 tonnes of cargo; import totaled 57,900 tonnes; coastal trade cargo – 63,000. The port’s container terminal handled 14,116 TEU including 5,837 TEU of coastal trade containers, 4,005 TEU o import containers and 4,274 TEU of export containers.

According to Andrei Malko, VMTP chief operational manager, the volume of cargo handled in the first five months of the year makes 50% of the plan for 2009. The highest growth was demonstrated in export of goods produced by Russian iron-and steel companies.
