OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2009. SCF Group and United Industrial Corporation (OPK) signed a cooperation agreement on 5 June, as part of the 13th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This agreement will see the parties cooperate in determining the technical and commercial parameters for the construction of multifunctional ice-breaking offshore support vessels and tankers for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG), with a capacity of about 75,000mі, as well as product-carriers of 70,000 tonnes deadweight.

OAO “Severnaya verf” and OAO “Baltiysky Zavod”, both part of OPK, are Russia’s leading enterprises building ocean going merchant ships. They intend to fulfil their industrial potential on the world market through the implementation of a programme of commercial shipbuilding development.

SCF Group, one of the world’s leaders in seaborne energy transportation, has many years of experience in the construction of vessels at various yards around the world. It is also the largest customer of Russia’s merchant shipbuilding industry. The Group is interested in expanding its use of Russian shipyards to satisfy its future tonnage requirements.
