OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2009. The Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) has confirmed the compliance of the construction of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2 with legal requirements and standards.

This is the resolution of Rostekhnadzor’s inspection held at Novovoronezh NPP-2 on May 25–29.

Presently, the constructors are concreting the ring walls of the reactor building of the 1st unit and since May 29 have been reinforcing the foundation plate of the reactor building of the 2nd unit with 274 tons of armature fixed.

Presently, the construction covers 45 main and 82 temporary facilities. Over 2,500 people and 200 vehicles and special devices are involved in the project.

In June 2007 the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy and Atomenergoproekt signed a state contract for the construction of the 1st and 2nd units of the plant. The 1st unit is to be launched in 2012, the 2nd one — in 2013. The total financing is 130bln RUR.
The general contractor of the project is Atomenergoproekt (Moscow), one of the key engineering companies of Rosatom. AEP has designed most nuclear power plants in Russia, Eastern Europe and the CIS, particularly, Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran and Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in India. It is the general designer of Belene Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria.
