OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2009. Commercial Port of Vladivostok OJSC has completed the first phase of the project on the development of facilities for transshipment of cargo in large-capacity containers. This was announced by the press center of Primorski Territory Administration referring to the region’s Industry and Transport Department. According to the source, the port’s capacity is increased to 350 TEU per year. Further works on reconstruction and fitting of berths No 12-14 will raise the port’s annual capacity to 700,000 TEU by 2015.

Besides, Commercial Port Posiet OJSC is upgrading port facilities and is building a deep-water berth for vessels with 60,000 tonnes in displacement to increase its annual throughput from 3 to 7 million tonnes. The work is to be completed by 2011.

The Administration also reminded about implementation of the investment program on technical upgrading of handling equipment of Vostochny Port OJSC. The project is to be impklemented by 2010.

According to the region’s Administration, the southern part of Primorje is a promising point of growth and integration of the Far Eastern transport system into the international transport system. Reconstruction of seaports will improve attractiveness of their services and lead the region to the international market,” the Administration says.
