OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2009. St. Petersburg Atomenergoproekt (the general designer and contractor of the Leningrad NPP-2 project, SPbAEP) has bought a controlling interest in the Northern Department of Construction OJSC (OAO SUS).

On June 2 2009 SPbAEP purchased 61.06% voting shares of SUS.

SUS is situated in Sosnovy Bor (Leningrad region) and is the sub-co0ntractor of SPbAEP under the Leningrad NPP-2 project. This project is part of Rosatom’s long-term program (2009–2015) to increase the share of NPPs in Russia’s total energy production from 16% to 25%.

SUS has 42-year experience in the field of NPP construction. Specialists of SUS have taken part in the construction of the Sosnovy Bor scientific-industrial center for nuclear energy, Ignalina NPP in Lithuania and the sarcophagus of Chernobyl NPP as well as the elimination of the consequences of the 1988 earthquake in Armenia.

Director of SPbAEP Leonid Reznikov says that the purchase of the controlling interest in SUS is part of the company’s development program. “This is an important stage of SPbAEP’s program to develop into a highly efficient engineering company building modern nuclear power plants on a turnkey basis. This deal will help us to reduce our costs and to enhance the efficiency of the Leningrad NPP-2 project. The key benefit of this deal for SUS is that its human and industrial capacities will be actively employed despite the crisis.”
