OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2009. The conference is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the start of systematic studies of radioactivity in Russia.

Over 500 scientists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Lithuania, France, Germany, India, Iraq, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, the United States have applied for participation in the conference. Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Nikolay Laverov is the honorary guest of the forum.

Such a high interest in the conference is due to the growing attention to the problems of radiation in the world and to the plans to build a nuclear power plant in the territory of Tomsk region.

The key topic is radioactivity. Well-known scientists will make reports on natural and man-made radioactive elements, global radio-nuclides, the use of radioactive elements as indicators of natural and man-induced processes as well as for prospecting of natural resources, the use of mineral resources for the development of nuclear energy.  

Special attention will be paid to the problems and prospects of the nuclear industry, uranium deposits, risk assessment, the social-ecological, economic and legal aspects of nuclear energy development.

The press service of Tomsk Polytechnic University reports that the conferees will consider such disputable questions as society and radiation and recognition and concern as well as the problem of personnel training for the mineral resource complex of the nuclear industry.
