OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2009. In January-May 2009, the port of Izmail (Ukraine) handled 1.562 million tonnes of cargo (-52.1%, year-on-year) including 854,700 tonnes of export cargo (-59.4%) and 682,300 tonnes of trnsit cargo (-38.6%, year-on-year).

In the reported period, transshipment of grain increased 5.8 times to 52,100 tonnes, APK-Inform reports.

Transshipment of fertilizers totaled 55,400 tonnes (-36.4%).

Commercial seaport of Izmail is located at the crossing of important trade routes linking Mediterranean states with the Middle East and North Africa with Danube states of the West Europe and CIS. The depth is from 3.5 to 7.0 meters. Total length of equipped berths is 2,666 meters. The port accepts vessels of up to 150 meters in length, 30 meters in width and 7 meters in draft. The port is open for navigation round the year. In 2008, throughput of Izmail port increased by 0.1% to 6.9 million tonnes, net profit –2.5 times to UAH 8 mln.
