OREANDA-NEWS. On 01 July 2009 was announced, that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with his Croatian counterpart Stjepan Mesic on the first day of his official visit to Zagreb. In the course of the talks, the parties spoke in favor of expanding cooperation in the energy sector, machine building, textile and food industries, agriculture, transport, telecommunications, construction, culture, education and science.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the current level of trade and economic partnership between the two countries should be increased. According to him, experience and achievements of Croatia in the field of high technologies, especially in such industries as shipbuilding, machine building, chemical, textile, woodworking, electrical, electronic as well as pharmaceutical are in great demand in Turkmenistan. Furthermore, there are plenty of opportunities for interaction in the power industry.

In turn, Stjepan Mesic expressed Croatia's readiness to offer Turkmenistan modern diesel locomotives to replenish the technical fleet of the railway transport sector. The Croatian leader named the textile industry as another promising area for interaction. He also praised quality of Turkmen textiles.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Croatia spoke in favor of liberalizing the visa regime between the countries. After the talks Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Stjepan Mesic signed a joint communique.

A protocol on cooperation between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia was also signed as part of the ceremony.
