OREANDA-NEWS. July 7, 2009. In the first half of 2009, Commercial Seaport Yuzhny (Odessa region, Ukraine) handled 9.224 million tonnes of cargo (-17.6%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, cargo handling fell by 7.7% to 6.836 million tonnes.

In January-June the company handled 401 vessels and 90,840 open-top wagons (against 639 vessels and 78,878 open-top vessels handled in the same period of 2008).

Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine. The port is capable of handling up to 15 million tonnes of cargo per year. It specializes in transshipment liquid bulk cargo, dry bulk, chemicals, coal and packaged cargo.
