OREANDA-NEWS. July 13, 2009. European Bureau branch of OJSC Transsiberian Reinsurance Corporation paid Dalakfes Insurance Company (Vladivostok) 723.7 thousand rubles of reinsurance indemnity in connection with cargo crane damage of motor vessel “Ivan Makaryin” (type dry-cargo; year and place of built – 1981, Germany; displacement – 14043 BRT; flag and registration port – Russia, Vladivostok). Risk was accepted under facultative marine reinsurance treaty. 

The event took place on 29 August 2008. There was a discharge of the vessel in the port of Chennai (India). Due to negligence of crane operator of stevedoring company, the cable came off the jib sheave block after which it got stuck. The attempt to loosen the cable failed and it became even more tangled with winch barrel being overloaded. As a result, there was activated the security system and power was cut off from the crane. The attempt to fix the jib with the help of truck crane gave no results. Finally, crane jib fell on wharf resulting in multiple damages. The crane was repaired in China.

Total size of the damage without deductibles made up 1922 thousand rubles. On 2 July, 2009 after receipt of full loss portfolio, Transsiberian Re European bureau paid 723 666 rubles of the reinsurance indemnity including surveyor’s expenses.
