OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2009. In the first half of 2009 stevedoring companies of the group “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” handled over 5.2 mln. of cargoes, which is by 5% less than the corresponding figures of the last year.

The reduction of the cargo handling volumes of “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” is caused by the decrease of business activities of consignors of goods due to the economic crisis. However the negative dynamics of the turnover decreases. In these conditions in comparison with the six months of 2008 the handling volumes of import cargoes on the berths of the group of companies reduced by 28% (-40% in the 1st quarter of 2009), export volumes increased by 1% (-12% in the 1st quarter of 2009).

Among import cargoes handling volumes of the general cargoes decreased (-49%); as well as handling volumes of bulk and loose cargoes (-14%).

Volumes of certain categories of export cargoes have increased (steel (+36%), coal (+35%) and iron (+13%)).
 “First Stevedoring Company” handled 2  mln. tons (-26%); “Second Stevedoring Company” handled  0.9 mln. tons (+10%), which corresponds to the same figure of the last year. Car terminal on the territory of the Third Stevedoring Company didn’t perform any handling operations in the 1st half of 2009. Universal Handling facility in Ust-Luga handled 0.4 mln. tons.
