OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2009. President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev visited the Russian Federal Nuclear Center-All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF), the Institute of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics and Museum of Nuclear Weapon.

Medvedev visited the information stand “Software for the Science-Intensive Needs of the Industry” presented by a group of young researched of the institute.

Governor of Nizhniy Novgorod region V.Shantsev told Medvedev about VNIIEF’s housing program. The President asked Shantsev about the economic state of the region, the wages, the unemployment rate. He pointed out that it was necessary to more actively implement regional projects.

The same day Medvedev held a guest meeting of the Committee on Modernization and Technological Development of Economy. One of the key topics was the development of nuclear technologies. While opening the conference, Medvedev said that it was not a coincidence that the meeting was being held in Sarov: “It was exactly here that the first nuclear bomb was created 60 years ago – a project that laid the foundations of the nuclear parity.” Director of VNIIEF V.Kostyukov made a report on new projects in the field of computer technologies. He pointed out: “Super-computer technologies are the major technological weapon of the 21st century and the key way for us to achieve high competitiveness on the world market.” Medvedev said that the key mission of the Committee was to adopt decisions on the most urgent problems.
