OREANDA-NEWS. July 29, 2009. Representatives of the national commissions for UNESCO affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine are going to meet in Gomel to discuss properties submitted on the UNESCO’s Tentative List.

First of all they will define a concept of presenting the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble for adding it to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The meeting that will take place in the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble will also highlight the work done by the national commissions of the neighboring countries on nominating the relevant sites for inscription on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The participants of the meeting will consider the interregional and interstate cooperation in preserving the historic and cultural legacy.

UNESCO got interested in the Palace and Park Ensemble in Gomel in 2003. Back then the experts of the international organisation jointly with the specialists of the Culture Ministry of Belarus and local executive bodies paid a visit to the historic, architectural, cultural and natural sites of the Republic of Belarus.

The Palace and Park Ensemble, an excellent example of history, architecture, culture and nature, has been added to the list of the priority national properties. The site received the status of the outstanding historical and cultural value, according to Resolution No 578 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of 14 May 2007.
