OREANDA-NEWS. On 10 August 2009 was announced, that the Murmansk area is going to pass to water supply from underground sources. Deterioration of potable water which cities and region settlements take from the rivers and lakes became the reason of such decision.

Drinking lakes or sewage?

Now inhabitants of cities and area settlements take water from 11 underground and 52 superficial sources. Thus almost 94 percent of northerners drink water from the rivers and lakes. And after all such open reservoirs are especially polluted by emissions of the industrial enterprises.

Even decline of the industry in the end of the last century and the strengthened nature protection measures undertaken last years, have not lowered a problem sharpness. After all heavy metals collect in ground adjournment and fabrics of water animals and plants.

Now level of pollution of the basic sources of potable water exceeds all norms. So, in the lake Moncha supplying with water Monchegorsk, during a high water excess of maximum permissible concentration Nickel (maximum concentration limit) in 2-4 times is observed. Also high level beryllium, lead, cadmium is registered. Concentration of arsenic, tellurium, vanadium, copper which totally exceed standard levels constantly increases.

In lake Imandra from which inhabitants of the cities of Apatity and Polar Dawns drink, and also settlement Afrikanda, the mid-annual maintenance of copper, Nickel, manganese and aluminum makes 2-4 maximum concentration limits, and the maximum value reaches 10-18 maximum concentration limits.

Kandalaksha is fed with water with the river the Field where drains of the enterprises of housing and communal services and fish farmarrive. The copper maintenance in the river makes 6 maximum-permissible norms. In 3 times more admissible the maintenance of copper and in 5 times — manganese in waters Permusozera under Olenegorsky.

Correct a situation preliminary clearing of potable water could. But on 51 waterpipe of area of system of clearing is not present, including in one of the largest cities of area — Kandalaksha.

Does not improve quality of water and a condition of the water supply systems which deterioration reaches here and there 90 percent. How cleared water, having overcome tens kilometres of old and rusty pipes, in apartments of northerners it gets in such condition, that to usual household filters to clear it not under force.

At the same time on Kola peninsula enough of underground sources of water is reconnoitered. For example, in a river Tulomy valley there is a deposit of high-quality underground waters which could supply Murmansk, Kolu, Kildinstroj and Murmashi.

Deposits of underground waters are found and near Apatity, Kovdorom and Afrikandoj.

Works — for ten years

The basic works on transfer of cities and settlements into underground sources will be developed within the limits of program realisation "Water supply of Murmansk area".

It is calculated for 10 years. In region there will be a search, investigation and an estimation of underground sources of water supply of Monchegorsk, Polar Dawns and Olenegorska, building vodovodov for Murmansk, Kandalaksha, Apatity, Kovdora, Monchegorsk, Olenegorska, Polar Dawns and Afrikandy.

The big block of the program is made by works on repair of systems of water supply. The total cost of the program "Water supply of Murmansk area" makes 7,8 billion roubles.

Is in a "water" question and one more problem. In Murmansk area as experts consider, water is enough high quality. But it is poor minerals. For a normal life water which in a considerable quantity is in underground sources is required to the person more salty. If the regional program receives the logic end, we from the water crane will receive mineral water.

"In Russia about 40 percent of the population lives in regions where are compelled to consume poor-quality water, 90 percent of volume of sewage in the country are not cleared to standard level. Approximately 60 percent of pollution from this quantity„ provide “the enterprises of a housing-and-municipal complex", — the speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov considers.

According to scientists if to provide all population with pure potable water, average life expectancy will increase for 5-7 years. Therefore in 2010 the government program "Pure water" should start.

According to Gryzlov, its financing within a year makes 10 billion roubles.
