OREANDA-NEWS. On 18 August 2009 was announced, that crew of AN-225 Mriya was handed a certificate confirming inclusion of the aircraft’s record flight into the Guinnes Records Book. In such a way the international community marked transportation by the aircraft the heaviest in the history of aviation monocargo – generator weighting 174 t which was transported with special frame.

The total weight of the cargo was 187,6 t.

The generator was delivered from Frankfurt (Germany) to Yerevan (Armenia) where it is necessary for the new electric power station. Due to mountain landscape and the absence of a sea port in the destination point, the cargo could be delivered by air only. The biggest aircraft of the world Mriya only could perform that task.

Having received an order for delivering the cargo from GS Engineering & Construction (South Korea) ANTONOV ASTC specialists calculated that with weight of the generator in 174 t and length of its support in 9 m, load per meter of the aircraft cabin was more than 19 t. It much exceeded permissible value in 10 t. To reduce this figure, engineers of Antonov Airlines jointly with the Swiss collegues from ALSTOM company, manufacturer of the generator, and L&M company designed a especial frame weighting 16 t only.

In the result, it was possible to reach the required load distribution and to keep limits on landing weight of the aircraft under conditions of Yerevan airport.

In such a way Mriya became an absolute world champion in heavy weight: it has the record on transportation of the maximum commercial cargo of 247 t, maximum commercial monocargo – 187,6 t and absolut record of cargo capacity – 253,8 t. However – the main ability of Mriya is delivering necessary cargoes, which cannot be transported by other transport.
