OREANDA-NEWS. On 27 August 2009 was announced, that Lietuvos Energija completed one the largest investment projects of the company this year – renovation of 110 kV power transmission lines Kaunas – Jonava – Kedainiai – Panevezys and reconstruction of communication lines.  Overall there have been replaced about 130 km of ground wire by additionally installing an optical communications cable. The value of the project, launched in spring 2006, is estimated at LTL 18 million.

 “This is a highly important investment into the renovation of Lithuanian electricity infrastructure.   The installation of the optical fiber cable in this line will help shape the so-called East data power transmission ring, ensuring the reliability of data transfer and electricity supply”, - said Mr. Vidmantas Grusas, Director of Department of Transmission Grid, Lietuvos Energija.

The feeders of optical fiber cable, installed at the transformer substations of Kaunas, Jonava, Kedainiai, Panevezys and Velzys will create additional possibilities of supply and back up of telecommunication services. These cables will ensure the transfer of physical protection and video information about the facilities as well as the reliable operation of remote control systems of the substations.

During the reconstruction work on the transmission lines Kaunas – Jonava – Kedainiai – Panevezys also obsolete support poles of overhead power lines were replaced or reinforced, line routes were cleared.

In 2009 Lietuvos Energija allocated LTL 120 million for investments. The total length of 110 kV power lines account for 4970 km, 330 kV – 1670 km.  The bulk of them is obsolete and worn out.
