OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2009. NPO Saturn has completed development work of the second marine gas-turbine engine - M70FRU – and is planning to subject it to the official tests in September this year in Rybinsk.

NPO Saturn is the sole Russian company that develops and manufactures gas-turbine engines for the main propulsion systems of the surface ships.

The first Russian marine gas-turbine engine M75RU developed and manufactured by NPO Saturn successfully passed official tests in November 2006.

In distinction to the M75 RU tests, for the M70FRU engine, a variant of its installation on a particular boat has already been studied. As of now, the preliminary design of the MA1 unit has been developed for the advanced Dyugon boat. The boat designers are included in the state commission for the M70FRU tests, and they do not doubt that the tests will be successful.

The M75RU rated at 6000-7000 hp and M75RU rated at 12000-14000 hp gas-turbine engines developed by NPO Saturn are the base highly economical automated marine gas-turbine engines of the 4th generation.
The marine propulsion systems with the M75RU and M75RU gas-turbine engines have good commercial opportunities. In particular, except for the Navy, NPO Saturn proposed the M75RU and M75RU gas-turbine engines for ships and boats of the FSB Frontier Forces of the Russian Federation.
By specialists’ estimate, the boats equipped with the NPO Saturn gas turbines will be demanded both by the Russian Navy and foreign customers.
