OREANDA-NEWS. September 04, 2009. Ukraine and Libya have agreed to jointly build small-size planes for the countries of African continent. The Head of Board of Antonov state-owned aircraft concern Dmytro Kiva announced after the meeting of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko with representatives of Libyan investment fund and leaders of aviation branch of Libya.

Dmytro Kiva emphasized that Ukraine would suggest a model of An-38 plane for the joint production with Libya: “It is a small-size plane, it can operate from unpaved airdromes in adverse conditions of the African region and we have such planes”.

According to Dmytro Kiva, the Head of Government Yulia Tymoshenko has commissioned to more actively cooperate with the Libyan party in the area of aircraft building: “Just the Prime Minister was an initiator of all the actions directed to improvement of cooperation and mutual trust between Ukraine and Libya as Africa is a huge market for Ukraine”.

The head of Board of Antonov state-owned aircraft concern stressed that in the nearest two days memorandum of cooperation will be inked and it will contain measures in realization of the mentioned project among others. According to Dmytro Kiva, the document will also entertain issues of creating of a special centre for technical maintenance and repair of planes in Libya which now uses over 30 aircrafts designed by Antonov ASTC. He added that questions of building of such centre were being analyzed by experts.
