OREANDA-NEWS. September 07, 2009. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky met with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk in Gdansk to discuss the bilateral cooperation, reported the Official website government.by.

It has been the first meeting between the Рrime Мinisters of the two states in the recent years.

“I am glad to welcome you here, on the Polish land, on 1 September,” said Donald Tusk addressing the Belarusian Premier. The Polish Prime Minister noted that the Belarusian and Polish people suffered significant losses during World War II.

On 1 September, the first day of a three-day working visit to Poland, Sergei Sidorsky took part in the day of remembrance to mark the 70th anniversary of the WWII outbreak. The Belarusian head of government met with the Polish businessmen, the senior executives of the Elektrobudowa, Famur, AKJ Investments companies.

Belarus and Poland signed a memorandum on cooperation in the power industry. The document was signed by Energy Minister of Belarus Alexander Ozerets and Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister Waldemar Pawlak.

This framework document defines the major areas of cooperation in the power industry that can be further developed and enforced by the relevant agreements.

The memorandum creates conditions for developing cooperation in the electric energy trade, transit and delivery. The document also envisages the exchange in experience and bilateral consultations on the construction of power generating facilities.

In the near future Belarus can implement several large projects with Polish companies, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky told reporters at the end of working visit to Poland.

“On 1-2 September I had several important meetings with senior executives of the Polish companies which are ready to work on the Belarusian market,” he said.

It, first of all, concerns Kulczyk Holding, a large Polish company. “We have been developing a joint project to construct a coal station. The station running on Polish coal will be built in Belarus. The station will deliver electric energy to the EU and partially to Belarus,” Sergei Sidorsky said.

According to the Prime Minister, it is an interesting economically sound project. “We discussed the issue. The project was approved by the Polish government. I think we will start the implementation of the project in the near future,” Sergei Sidorsky said.

The Belarusian side has also offered the Kulczyk Holding to consider another project to build a coal station in Lelchitsy. The preliminary capacity of the station makes up 400 MW.

According to the Belarusian head of government, the investments in these two projects may amount to US1.5-2 billion. The Kulczyk Holding is ready to raise these funds from other investment companies under the guarantees of the Belarusian side.

Sergei Sidorsky also met with seniour officials of Elektrobudowa which would like to deliver power-generating equipment and energy electrical installations for the future nuclear power plant in Belarus.

Setting up a joint mining equipment production was discussed with the Famur company. The issues of providing consulting services in privatization of Belarusian companies and banks were high on the agenda of a meeting of Sergei Sidorsky with AKJ Investments.

As for Gdansk, we are interested in the city seaport. A terminal construction project which is now being implemented in Brest jointly by a Czech company and the Belarusian Railways is interesting for Polish companies that can team up with the Gdansk seaport. This is a good promising project. There are all prerequisites for working on the Polish market,” Sergei Sidorsky said.

The negotiations were also held with the Grif company from Gdansk, a passenger transportation company. “We have discussed the delivery of MAZ buses. I think we could sell 100-150 MAZ buses here,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Ministers of Belarus and Russia Sergei Sidorsky and Vladimir Putin plan to meet in Moscow in the near future, the Belarusian Premier told media.

“On 1 September we agreed with Vladimir Putin to meet in Moscow in September,” he said.

“We have agreed to discuss a wide range of economic issues considered at the previous Union State Council of Ministers as well as the instructions given by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko after his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev,” Sergei Sidorsky explained.
