OREANDA-NEWS. September 11, 2009. Gazprom is ready to deliver SPG on regasification terminal in Klaipeda (Lithuania) if that is constructed. After closing in December of the atomic power station of the Soviet construction in Lithuania there will be a power deficiency, dependence on deliveries of the Russian gas grows.

Manufacture condensed natural gas (SPG) on the basis of the Shtokmanovsky deposit is planned to open in 2013. This gas can go and to Lithuania, has declared, as informs RBC, the vice-president of board "Gazprom" Valery Golubev.

The first turn of the project is calculated on 23,7 billion cubic m of gas a year. Five percent it will be delivered on home market of Murmansk area. From the remained 50 % will move to consumers on the pipeline, the others of 50 % will be delivered in the form of SPG.

Growing dependence on the Russian gas

In December Lithuania will close the Ignalina atomic power station of the Soviet construction, that practically in one night will transform the Baltic state with the population of 3,4 million persons from the exporter of energy into the importer, writes Forbes.com.

As the country does not have direct connection to the European power supply system, it will need to increase only import of energy from Russia.

This week "Gazprom" has opened the new gas pipeline laid through the Lithuanian territory which will allow the company to increase deliveries to Kaliningrad. Same the gas pipeline will open possibility for escalating of deliveries of natural gas to Lithuania.

Many Lithuanians are afraid of growing dependence on deliveries of the Russian gas about which unambiguously speaks the fact of occurrence of the new pipeline. Hasty decisions of Moscow on the termination in due time deliveries to Ukraine and to Belarus forces to doubt reliability of Russia as supplier of energy.

"Vilnius should not forget, that the Kremlin uses" Gazprom "not only as economic but also as very effective political tool", - has told Rajmundas the Shovel, the director of Institute of the international relations and political sciences of the Vilnius university.

According to "Gazprom", gas deliveries on the new pipeline will begin in December.
