OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. Belarus plans to cut grain imports to the minimum and import only 5,000 tonnes of milling wheat with gluten content over 28% in 2009, an official in the Agriculture Ministry told.

Belarus will import 1,500 tonnes of milling wheat of last year’s harvest and 3,500 tonnes of milling wheat of this year’s harvest.

“We plan to import only 5,000 tonnes of grain this year. All imports will be for pasta producer Borimak. As for third grade wheat with gluten content above 25%, we have sufficient supplies domestically,” he said.

“We will see how it goes, but the plan for today is to buy not more than 5,000 tonnes of wheat,” he said.

State-run Belptitseprom will hold a tender to buy milling wheat on September 15.
