OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. In January-August, 2009, Ukraine’s sea and river commercial fleet carried 5.8 mln t of cargo (-57.4%, year-on-year), Ukrainian state statistics committee informs.

The volume of cargo carried by river transport companies fell by 65.4%, year-on-year, by transport – by 45.9%. Foreign shipping by sea transport fell by 53.6%, river transport – by 48.6%. Commercial and fishing ports of Ukraine (both sea and river) fell by 16.8%, year-on-year, to 103.7 mln t. Transshipment of import cargo fell by 52.7%, transit cargo – by 22.7%, domestic transportation of cargo – by 63.7%. Transshipment ofexport cargo increased by 10.0%. The number of handled vessels fell by 26.2% to 10,800 units.
           
In the reported period, the number of passengers carried by Ukraine’s sea transport declined by 15.5%, year-on-year. The companies of Sevastopol accounting for 81.0% of total number of passengers carried by sea transport decreased passenger transportation by 15.3%.
