OREANDA-NEWS. October 6, 2009. Freight One’s Vladivostok branch in August posted a sevenfold increase in rolled steel and ferrous metal scrap haulage compared with July—from 2,500 metric tons to 18,100 metric tons.

The bulk of the freight was hauled under an agreement with the Komsomolsk-on-Amur-based metallurgical company Amurmetall. Haulage of ferrous metals in the Far East has declined since the spring of 2009 because of the general economic situation. Amurmetall significantly expanded output in August, which, in turn, required a substantial increase in haulage. Freight One’s Vladivostok branch hauled 157 cars of rolled ferrous metals and other freight from Amurmetall to domestic customers and 80 for export.

A total of 45 cars of scrap metal were dispatched from stations of Vladivostok and Khabarovsk Branch of the Far Eastern Railway in order to ensure the smooth operation of the region’s leading steel companies.

“Despite this sharp increase, we were able to quickly hand over the required number of cars for loading. Freight One has a large fleet of cars, which allows us to respond quickly to changes in the freight market and meet our customers’ needs,” said Freight One’s Vladivostok Branch Director Viktor Osipov.
