OREANDA-NEWS. October 13, 2009. CEO of DTEK, Maxim Timchenko, took part in an international conference ‘The Enlargement of the Energy Community: What’s in it for Ukraine?’ held in Kiev.
 
The event was organized by the International Centre for Policy Studies and Kiev office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Hryhoriy Nemyrya, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira,  Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, representatives of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Fuel and Energy,  diplomatic corps and largest energy companies operating in Ukraine (Shell, E.ON Ruhrgaz), senior managers of the European Commission and Energy Community Secretariat, international and Ukrainian energy experts took part  in the conference.
 
One of the key discussion topics was a Memorandum recently signed in Kiev on completion of negotiation as for Ukraine’s joining the Energy Community.
 
While addressing the conference participants Maxim Timchenko said that the role of DTEK, the largest private company in the national energy market, was to communicate the position of private business in discussions on prospects for Ukraine’s energy sector to public and European community.
 
The opening prospect of Ukraine’s joining the Energy Community will contribute to resolving the main challenges the national energy sector faces today and promote objectives within DTEK’s development strategy:
to change the electricity generation, distribution and sales regulatory framework;
to ensure equal access for national energy companies to external markets;
to bring the energy sector of Ukraine close to EU environmental and safety standards.
