OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. The development of the Alabyano-Baltiysky Tunnel included in the Bolshaya Leningradka project goes to plan and will be completed in late 2009.

“The work is tough, but it is being done according to schedule,” Aleksandr Levchenko, head of the Department of Road and Bridge Engineering of Moscow, said at the 2009 International Forum City Build.

According to the official, the tunnel will be commissioned by the end of 2009.

Earlier Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov compared the tunnel development with a neurosurgical operation as it is being dug under two operating metro lines.

It is stipulated by the Bolshaya Leningradka project that a multilevel interchange is to be developed near Sokol Station of the Moscow Metro. Besides the Alabyano-Baltiysky Tunnel, there is the Volokolamsky Tunnel in that area. Its lanes for traffic running to the centre of Moscow are currently open, the lanes for the traffic in the opposite direction are scheduled to be open in December 2009.
