OREANDA-NEWS. November 02, 2009. Universal Handling Facility (part of the group of companies “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” handled over 1 mln. tons of cargoes since its opening in January of 2009.

On 23d of October 50 thousand tons of export iron were loaded onto Panamax vessel “Ambitious Sky” in order to be delivered to United States of America.

300 thousand tons of cargoes more are planned to be handled till the end of 2009. Handling volumes for 12 months of  2009 will amount to 1.3 mln. tons.

Universal Handling Facility with the annual handling capacity of 3 mln. tons started its operations in January 13, 2009.

Panamax — the type of the vessels with the maximum dimensions allowing to move through the lock-gates of the Panama channel:  294 meters long and 32.3 meters wide with the draught up to 12 meters. According to the modern types of the vessels these vessels are considered to be of medium size. Having such parameters they are entering the channel very tightly and have limited space for maneuvering.
