OREANDA-NEWS. November 06, 2009. It is 3 years since the beginning of regular passenger flights by one of the largest air carriers of Great Britain – bmi from Domodedovo international airport ( Moscow).

bmi is a member of the global aviation Star Alliance which base airport in Moscow is Domodedovo.

In October, 2008 bmi has increased frequency of flights from 1 to 2 daily flights thereby now it shows high rates of growth: due to the results of 9 months of 2009 the airline volume of passenger traffic has increased by 82,7 % in comparison with the similar period of last year.

The modern bmi was founded in 1964, although its history goes back to 1938. Already in the eighties a carrier took in the lead positions in the Britain market of aviatransportations. By the end of the nineties the passenger traffic has exceeded 6,5 million in a year. In 2000 the company became a member of Star Alliance, and in 2003 has made re-branding and has replaced the name on bmi. Now bmi operates around 1,600 flights a week to 48 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa. The wide network of internal and international transportations across Great Britain provides volume of passenger traffic of 10 million persons in 2008. The airline park consists of 52 aircrafts : A-330-200 (3 pieces), A-321-200 (9 pieces), А320-200 (10 pieces), A-319-100 (11 pieces), Boeing 757-200 (1 piece) and also Embraer 145 (16 pieces) and Embraer 135 (4 pieces).

Domodedovo – the largest airport of Russia and the Eastern Europe, the leader of passenger transportations among the Russian airports, its share in the general volume of passenger traffic of the Moscow aviation hub makes 45,3 % (following the results of 9 months of 2009). In 2008 Domodedovo airport has served 20,4 million passengers.

In 2009 such airlines, as United Airlines, TAP, Nord Star, Nouvelair and others became partners of Domodedovo. For today from Domodedovo 80 carriers in 220 directions worldwide make flights. Among them 34 foreign airlines, 30 - Russian, 16 – from the CIS countries. The routing network of airlines-partners of Domodedovo is unique in the Moscow aviation hub: flights in 94th directions are made only from Domodedovo.
