OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2009. DTEK’s Deputy CFO on IT, Sergey Detyuk, spoke at a Microsoft conference on the launch of new products of the corporation. DTEK has become first among large Ukrainian companies introducing innovative Microsoft products: Windows 7 operating system for personal computers and Windows Server 2008 R2 server operating system.

The work is being carried out within the framework of a large-scale infrastructural project covering more than 20 enterprises of the Company located in 4 regions of Ukraine. Isolated IT systems at the enterprises prevented free information exchange and prompt decision making, and required significant maintenance costs.

As a result of fundamental changes in the field of information technologies, DTEK anticipates a reduction in the total cost of IT infrastructure ownership by 32%.

'DTEK’s development strategy for the nearest years envisages an increase in the corporate governance efficiency, optimization of the key business-processes and introduction of new technologies. Building of a new IT infrastructure has become one of the key tasks of DTEK’s Information Technologies Development Strategy for 2009-2013. The basis of the new IT system is new technologies available on the market: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2’, commented Sergey Detyuk, DTEK’s Deputy CFO on IT.

The creation of a centralized IT system on the basis of the latest Microsoft products enabled DTEK to achieve a new level of IT management efficiency: to substantially reduce the maintenance costs, to ensure convenience and safety in data processing, to raise employees’ labour productivity, and to increase the energy efficiency: at various enterprises energy consumption was reduced from 3 to 12%. The consolidation of the server capacities as a result of virtualization significantly reduced the costs for equipment and maintenance: saving on over 100 physical servers alone amounted to about USD 375,000 with a simultaneous reduction in the need for premises and electricity. The new information platform provided DTEK with tools for increased productivity of employees, be they in the office, at home or on the way.

‘DTEK Company has put a stake on cutting-edge technologies, being one of the first in the world to switch to Windows 7. IT infrastructure has become a reliable basis that will support further development of the business. It is a good example of how Microsoft technologies help businesses strengthen their competitive advantages’, said Dmitriy Shymkiv, General Director of Microsoft Ukraine.
