OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2009. Meeting of operations center for reconstruction of turbo unit #7 of Ulan-Udenskaya CHPP-1 was held in Ulan Ude. The meeting was attended by the Customer – “TGK-14” and general designer – “Engineering Center UES”. They discussed work progress and the next project stages.

In was noted at the meeting that design and installation of turbo unit #7 are in accordance with the work schedule. Currently “Engineering Center UES” has completed the development of bulky cargo transportation scheme (for equipment and materials to be delivered to the reconstructed site), scheme of transportation site and motor road upgrades, remodeling and extension of rail way that will be used for equipment transportation to the site.

Under completion is construction of turbine hall ante-room (decision to build the ante-room was made in order to prevent freezing of the equipment already installed in the power station turbine hall when equipment and loads are transported into the turbine hall for assembly and installation of turbo unit #7 when outside temperature is negative). Reinforcement of condensation floor (elevation 0,0) and construction of turbo unit foundation is in progress.

At this time, selection of contractor for installation of electrical equipment is in progress; turbine manufacture is under monitoring. Selection of auxiliary equipment supplier factory is going on.

It will be reminded that “Engineering Center UES” was selected as general contractor for remodeling of Ulan-Udenskaya CHPP-1; the effort includes replacement of a 100 MW turbo unit #7 in Republic of Buryatia. The program stipulates for design, supply and installation of equipment of turbo unit #7, installation of automated process control system for the turbo unit and for the balance of plant and completion of startup and adjustment work.

“Engineering Center UES” is now doing remodeling of outdated systems and equipment at CHPP-1 in order to enhance the whole power station operation reliability and ensure operability of the new equipment to be installed in the cell of turbo unit #7. As a result of work at CHPP-1 reliability of power supply to consumers will be enhanced due to installation of the new equipment; power station economic and technical performance will go up and its electrical capacity will also grow.

Ulan-Udenskaya CHPP-1 is an important facility in power system of Republic of Buryatia. It was commissioned in 1936. In February 2008 a serious breakdown occurred at the station which entailed outage of two turbo units- ## 6&7. As a result of this accident the CHPP-1 lost 100 MW of installed capacity which signified considerable reduction of power grid reliability for the city of Ulan-Ude. Rehabilitation of turbo unit #7 has become the basic element of stage two investment program of “TGK-14”.
