OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2009. The city authorities are currently preparing the construction documents for developing 7 park and ride facilities on the outskirts of Moscow.

According to Vitaly Kryuchkov, head of the Department for Garage Development operating within the Department of Road and Bridge Engineering of Moscow, 17 sites have been already allocated within Moscow for the car parks with the total capacity of 18,000 parking spaces.

“The construction documents on the first 7 car parks are currently being prepared,” the official specified.

The first park and ride facilities planned for the outskirts of Moscow will be developed at Mitino, Tushinskaya, Yasenevo, Vykhino and VDNKh stations of the Moscow Metro and in Butovo Township.

“The program aimed at developing park and ride facilities needs investment. However, taking into account the financial crisis, we are sure that investors won’t participate in it actively. Therefore we plan to implement the program through the concession agreements,” Mr Kryuchkov said.

In this case an investor having built a car park will be able to run it from 15 to 20 years until it is transferred into Moscow’s ownership.

It is estimated that the city of Moscow needs 150,000 parking spaces in park and ride facilities.
