OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2009. Sberbank could snap up Belarusian BPS-Bank for USD 300 mn. Sberbank of Russia has been discussing the option of acquiring one of the largest state-controlled lenders in Belarus since the beginning of the year, and in October the head of the Belarusian National Bank claimed a transaction is close to completion and a sale agreement could be signed by the end of November.

The transaction price is expected to be around USD 300 mn. Previously PBS-Bank, with equity exceeding USD 200 mn, was valued by the Belarusian appraiser at USD 500 mn, while the appraiser hired by Sberbank said the bank is worth roughly USD 150 mn.
