OREANDA-NEWS. December 2, 2009. Russian engineering company “Engineering Center UES” signed a contract for participation in renovation project to be implemented at one of the major Iraqi electric power stations– Thermal Power Station (TPS) “Nassiriyah”. In consortium with a Russian partner, SEK, the company will perform reconstruction of power units #3 and 4 with the purpose of augmenting their capacity from 110 to 180 MW each.

The scope of work to be done by “Engineering Center UES” will include supply of energy equipment and spare parts for turbines, steam generating equipment and electrical equipment; comprehensive startup and adjustment work at two units; general engineering and financial support of the project.

Currently, final negotiations with equipment manufacturing contractors are in progress. In December 2009, “Engineering Center UES” is planning to complete the contractual work and proceed with site operations. These include setting up a construction camp and logistics. After that, the company will directly commence the reconstruction of unit systems and equipment. “Engineering Center UES” is planning to have all the work completed in the year 2010.

TPS “Nassiriyah” is the key component in Iraqi energy system supplying power to the capital of Iraq- city of Baghdad. This is a promising contract for “Engineering Center UES” and it is expected to strengthen the company’s position in Middle East energy market.

“Engineering Center UES” and its branches have professional references associated with work at thermal and hydroelectric power stations in Iraq as well as at thermal power stations and hydroelectric power stations in other countries of the Middle East. It will be noted that branch of “Engineering Center UES” – “Firm ORGRES” – carried out startup and adjustment work and energy equipment profile tests at TPS “Nassiriyah” in 1978-1984 and later – in the 2000-s- it took part in reconstruction, setup and adjustment of automated process control system at the same power station.
