OREANDA-NEWS. December 2, 2009. Cargo turnover of Tallinna Sadam (Tallinn port) went up by 7.1% (to 28.5 mln tons of cargo) within 11 months 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of 2008. In November the port transhipped 2.615 mln tons, (+15.8% year-on-year).
 
Volume of liquid cargoes handled (20.7 mln,+11.9% year-on-year), and that of bulk cargoes (3.875 mln tons, +38.6%) traditionally prevails. Here as well belongs coal transhipment (5-time increase to 1.423, +426%). Ro-Ro cargo throughput amounted to 2.459 mln tons (-26.2%). The volume of containerized cargo went down to 119.426 thou TEU (-28.8%).

The number of passengers served within the reporting period increased by +0.1% (6.737 mln passengers).  4.291 thou passenger vessels and 2.404 thou cargo ships were served.

Tallinn stands third port of the Baltic Sea in its area after the ports of St.-Petersburg and Primorsk. The port of Tallinn consists of 5 ports or the so called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. Cargo turnover of the port of Tallinn amounted to 29 mln 77 thousand 2008, in January-September the figure grew by 6.7% (23.337 mln tons) as compared to the corresponding period figure of 2008.
