OREANDA-NEWS. December 3, 2009. In Warsaw headquarter of The Centre for EU Transport Projects, CEUTP and Port of Gdynia Authority SA representatives signed the project "Modernisation of the Port Channel in the port of Gdynia" co-financing agreement.

The agreement was signed by: Anna Siejda - The Centre for EU Transport Projects Director, Port of Gdynia Authority SA President Janusz Jarosnski and Port of Gdynia Authority SA Vice-President Walery Tankiewicz.

The investment encompasses reconstruction and widening of the entrance to the Port of Gdynia (seabed), preservation of construction of port quays - reinforcement of bottom parts and dredging of port basins, including the passage fairway and the channel inside the port as well as reconstruction of three turn-basins together with dredging. The works will include rebuilding of Ostroga Pilotowa, and reinforcement of the bottoms at the quays located along the Port Channel, mainly at the outer turn-basin No. 1 (French Quay), in Basin III (Dutch and Belgian , Quays), at turn-basin No. 2, along the channel to the turn-basin No. 3 (Norwegian and Yugoslavian Quays) and at the end of the Channel (Helskie I Quay) as well as dredging in the whole area of the project in order to reach the depth of 13,5 m.

Reloading volume in the Port of Gdynia is systematically growing in all cargo groups (since 2003 - by 10 - 15% annually, on average, whereas in the next years a stable growth on the level of 5 - 10% annually is estimated). The Port of Gdynia is the "A" category port located in the TEN-T network Corridor VI whose development is one of the strategic priorities both in the Polish and European Union Strategies. This investment is then related to the programme of sea motorways as well as to the short-distance navigation.
