OREANDA-NEWS. December 09, 2009. It was presented the newest survey of "DnB NORD Latvian barometer" that reveals that the happiness most likely can be brought by our own labour and that the person who would be worst off in the current circumstances is diligent Maija from the fairytale, reported the press-centre of DnB NORD Banka.

Do you know who would be most badly off during the recession period in Latvia? 32% of all respondents believe that this person would be hard-working Maija from the fairytale "Maija and Paija" by Anna Brigadere, whereas 24% are of opinion that it would rather be a fair-dealing politician. This time "DnB NORD Latvian barometer" found out the people's opinion on the fairytale character to suffer the biggest hardship, on the exact direction our country is following, and other issues placed a bit off the beaten track.

The results of the monthly standing part of "DnB NORD Latvian barometer" indicate that in October by one per cent point has improved the opinion of the general public on the direction of Latvian development, as now it is considered correct by 6% of the population. In turn, by four per cent points has curtailed number of respondents who believe that the country in general is off the right course, and currently this opinion is shared by 81% of respondents.

Unchanged opinion as compared to September people have on financial standings of their families and future development projections (38% and 19%, respectively). By three per cent points from 36% to 39% has grown number of respondents who believe that their financial standings are common - middling.  In turn, 33% of all people are of opinion that the family's welfare standard as compared to the current situation in 12 months will remain the same.

In October has worsened the opinion on a chance to find a good job, as 68% of respondents describe it as very poor, which is the lowest indicator since April 2008 when was first introduced "DnB NORD Latvian barometer".

Second part of "DnB NORD Latvian barometer" this time has appeared under the title "Fairytale Latvia", and its subject is the people's opinion on opportunities of various fairytale and some more realistic characters to survive under today's economic circumstances.

"During the time when the nature and people tend to become dull and grey and the festive mood of the end of the year is yet to be anticipated the second part of DnB NORD Latvian barometer is composed in a lighter mood to look at the situation in Latvia from the funny side. Though the subject of our survey "Fairytale Latvia" in its essence is rather irrational, the poll clearly reveals sufficiently sensible nature of the Latvians and their belief in their own strength," says the CEO of DnB NORD Banka Andris Ozolins.

To "DnB NORD Latvian barometer" people have admitted that the happiness most likely could be brought by their own labour, as such response was chosen by 62% of all respondents, by far outpacing the Fortune (Laimes mate) with 10% and the Bear of Fortune (Laimes lacis) with 8%.
"More than one third (35%) of all respondents believe that the welfare of their household would be best improved by a new good job," says A.Ozolins. The second most popular response (16%) was that improvement of financial position could be attained by finding the lost "Latvenergo" three million, and only 10% are ready to choose the easy route and find the Treasury Island.

Answering the question on who would be the best off in the current economic situation 41% of the respondents admitted that the cunning Fox Reynard, whereas twice as little respondents believe that the grey wolf. Yet the worst off would be hard-working Maija, fair-dealing politician and fair-dealing traffic inspector (policeman).

Even though 53% of all people believe that Latvia currently is hitting the road that leads to great uncertainty, Latvians admit that we will most likely manage the hardship under the lead of smart politicians (42%), and only 17% would like to find a new authoritarian leader.

"DnB NORD Latvian barometer" has already become widely recognized monthly social survey in the country appears on monthly basis and is focusing on the hottest issues of the given period. Yet at the same time to the general public is addressed a list of regular questions, which month by month indicate changes in the general public sentiments.
