OREANDA-NEWS. December 11, 2009. Starting December 6, 2009 UIA increases frequency of its own flights from Kyiv to Tbilisi from 4 to 6 times a week. From now on UIA’s own flights will be operated daily, except Saturday. This news will be especially pleasant for those who like winter sports, because ski season launches in Georgia at the beginning of December!

Many of us do not imagine that sunny Georgia, well known as a land of wine and warm sea, offers tourists great opportunities for skiing. At that the most famous ski resorts in Georgia – Bakuriani and Gudauri, are easily reached from Tbilisi airport. Bakuriani, a small picturesque village, is situated at a height of 1700 meters on the Northern slope of Trialetian ridge, not far from Borzhomi gorge in 190 kilometers from Tbilisi. It has several skiing tracks certified under FIS. Among them is the famous “Sklon” – a black category track with angle of slope up to 54 degrees. The resort also has ski jumps and 1350 meters track for bobsleighing. Gudauri is situated in 120 km from Tbilisi at a height of 2196 m near famous Khrestovy mountain pass. Besides processed tracks with 15 kilometers of total length, the main attraction of Gudauri is a free ride – skiing over virgin fields. Deep snows, absence of stones and snow-slips danger make Gudauri a real Mecca for free riders. There are also plenty of out-track grades for backcountry and helly-ski at the resort. No visa required for citizens of Ukraine and competitive prices for accommodation and skiing are yet another advantage for going to Georgia.
