OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2009. Cotton growers in Balkan Velayat reported on the fulfillment of the contractual obligations on raw cotton production. Their labour victory is a result of the large-scale reforms launched in the agro-industry sector on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

To ensure a success of the reforms agricultural workers engaged in cultivating various crops pay considerable attention to local soil and climatic conditions of each region. This year, cotton-growers in Balkan Velayat sow cotton in richly irrigated lands. The best agricultural workers, who have the profound experience in cultivating this valuable crop, grew cotton in the region. The widespread cotton variety in the region is middle staple variety that is adapted well to local climatic conditions. This approach has proved its effectiveness. The region specialized traditionally in raising cattle and growing fodder crops accomplished the task.

It is local cotton growers, who are to be praised. Demonstrating the brilliant skills and technique they revive the farming traditions in the western region of the country. In Balkan Velayat cotton is mainly sown in Serdar and Bereket Etraps – the fertile oasis between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag Mountains fed by the waters of the Karakum River. It is the important agricultural region in Balkan, on the plantations of which a rich harvest was reaped by local diligent farmers.

Thus, the cotton growers of Balkan Velayat joined the ranks of agricultural workers of Mary and Ahal Velayats, who have fulfilled their contractual obligations on raw cotton production. This labour victory is a logical result of the work of many months and effective land treatment activities. Nowadays, cotton growers do their best to harvest ‘white gold’ without loss. This is guaranteed by substantial economic benefits guaranteed to Turkmen agricultural workers by the measures taken by the Turkmen leader to encourage the development of agriculture in the country.
