OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2009. The foundation and supporting frame of the A-1 absorption tower at EuroChem-BMU’s sulfuric acid workshop (Belorechensk, Krasnodar Territory) have been completed. This construction is part of the capital renovations to the main production lines.

The new equipment was purchased from MECS Europe/Africa BVBA for RUR135.2 million. OJSC Nevinnomyssk-Remstroyservis is performing the installation for RUR109.7 million.

The commissioning of the new absorption tower is important for the environment, as it will help reduce emissions into the air 1.5-fold and, pending required approvals, increase the workshop’s capacity to 720,000 tons per year.

A by-product of sulfuric acid production is steam, which is subsequently consumed by the factory’s thermal power plant.

Currently, the amount of steam produced by existing facilities is insufficient to fully load the power plant, thus requiring additional gas consumption. If the capacity of sulfuric acid production facilities is increased, the factory will no longer need to buy gas for energy production and can become fully independent in terms of energy supply.
