OREANDA-NEWS. December 30, 2009. MegaFon, the first pan-Russian mobile operator, provided free access to services in 3G network to its Stolichny Branch subscribers – representatives of mass media and guests of Sochi-2014 Information Centre in Moscow.

Sochi-2014 Information Centre in Moscow is the main information site of Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic games. Its purpose is to ensure maximally comfortable work of Russian and international mass media at the Games. The complex is a part of Sochi-2014 Integral Information Centre combining the Moscow site and a similar centre in Sochi

The centre located in the building of RIA “Novosty” is equipped with dedicated base stations providing access to the 3G network through HSDPA* technology. The rate of data transmission in the HSDPA-network is about 7.2 Mbps. The base stations installed in the Centre also provide operation of 2G-network through GPRS/EDGE technology. From November 27, 2009 through April 30, 2014 inclusively, the service of high-speed data transmission in 3G networks will be free for the subscribers of MegaFon’s Stolichny Branch in the Centre. Use of 2G network via GPRS/EDGE** will not be charged either.
