OREANDA-NEWS. December 31, 2009. Kherson Regional Branch of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (ACU) fined the state-owned Kherson Commercial Sea Port "by 16.000 hryvna (approximately USD 2.000) for abuse of it’s monopoly domination. According to the Committee the seaport imposed unreasonable specialized services such as the stevedoring supervision of cargo operations at the port imposing this additional service upon stevedoring companies that applied for complete loading of their sea ships.

In addition, the press service of the AMC said, the port obligated the agent companies that, at the request of the shipowner, deal with the port on the service vessels during their port calls, order only the port’s own boats.

The regional Antimonopoly office ordered port to bring their activities into compliance with the requirements of the national legislation. The port authorities acknowledged the breach of the law and paid a fine to the government.

Kherson sea port was founded in 1778. The port has 10 berths, 13 commercial cargo platforms and 2 railway platforms. The company operates in transshipment off-port, cabotage cargoes, handling services. The port’s cargo turnover amounted to 4.268 million tons.
