OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2010. Within the period 2009 the stevedoring companies of the group “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” handled over 11.5 mln. tons of cargoes which is by 5% more than in 2008.

The reduction of the turnover of the group in the beginning of 2009 caused by financial crisis was eliminated mainly due to the growth of the volumes of the export cargo: export cargo volumes increased by 15 % in comparison with 2008. The handling volumes of steel have increased by 55%, coal – by 31%, non-ferrous metals – by 21%. 

Among the import cargoes there was the reduction of handling volumes of the general cargoes, in particular, of the metals (-3%), reefer cargoes (-32%), cargoes in big-bags (-87%) and containers (-65%). The volumes of bulk and loose cargoes have decreased by 25%. The total handling volumes of import cargoes have decreased by 28%.

First Stevedoring Company handled 4.7 mln. tons of cargoes (-7%) (in comparison with 2008), Second Stevedoring Company handled 1,8 mln. tons of cargoes (+8%). Fourth Stevedoring Company handled 3,5 mln. tons (-14%).

In 2009 on the car terminal on the territory of the Third Stevedoring Company handling operations were not performed due to financial crisis and decrease of the import flow of cars.

Universal Handling Facility” in Ust-Luga handled approximately 1.5 mln. tons of cargoes.
