OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2010. Arkhangelsk branch of the North Railway (NR/SZD, a subsidiary Russian Railways JSC) transported through the seaport of Arkhangelsk in 2009 more than 727.000 tons of cargoes, a year-over-year 22.4% decline.

In recent calendar year, the ARailway carried 242.2 thousand tones of export commodities (a 2.36 percent drop, over 2008), as the major exported volume falls on timber cargoes – 32.8 thousand tons, and coal – 199.7 thousand tons. The company shipped import cargoes at 359.5 thousand tons (almost a 20% growth over 2008). The import volume includes metal - 212.3 thousand tons, of alumina – 145.9 thousand tons.

The overall, the current capacities of the railway allow a significant rebound in the volumes of freight transshipment via Arkhangelsk Commercial Sea Port, the press service of the NR said.
