OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2010. Metinvest presents its first Social Report. The first Social Report of Metinvest was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The Report reflects major initiatives in priority areas of socially responsible activities of the Company in 2008. The document demonstrates a systematic approach to tackling the issues of the Company’s sustainable development. The Report has been developed with self-declared Application Level as C.

The Report reflects significant events of 2008 and major social activities of the Company: health, safety and environment, social protection and personnel development, local community development.

The Report covers eight enterprises of the Group representing core production areas of Metinvest in Ukraine (iron ore and coal mining, steel making, production of iron ore materials, coke, rolled products and pipes), and by very nature of its activity having a significant effect on environment and local communities in the areas of presence.

The Document emphasizes industrial and environmental safety, because monitoring and continuous life and health risks mitigation activities remain the Company’s priority. Since the date of its foundation, the Company has been making comprehensive, systematic and targeted efforts to improve those areas. We are confident that the measures being undertaken will enable to develop a new culture of behavior at production site, which will allow Ukraine becoming one of the leader-countries in the field of occupational safety assurance.

This is the first Social Report of the Group that has been developed and prepared in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The Report has been developed with self-declared Application Level as C. The first Social Report reflects the Company’s efforts to integrate sustainable development principles into core operations of Metinvest Group effectively.

In the view of the industry’s nature and long-term character of Metinvest’s social projects, further social reporting of the Group will be issued biannually (the next reporting year is 2010).
