OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2010. TEO LT, AB, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and TV services in Lithuania, will encourage customers to transfer obsolete telecommunications equipment for recycling. TEO has installed special containers in most customer care centres all over Lithuania. Waste modems or telephones collected in these containers will be transported to special recycling centres.

Equipment will be collected and safely recycled by UAB Zhalvaris. Residents may bring their obsolete telecommunications equipment as well as other domestic appliances to the representative offices of this company in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Shiauliai, Panevezhys, Utena and Marijampole counties.

According to Egle Gudelyte-Harvey, Director of Corporate Administration and Legal Affairs Unit of TEO, the Company has been actively implementing environmental initiatives to promote responsible use of natural resources among its employees for several years already, and from now on the Company’s customers will also be encouraged to get more actively involved in these initiatives.

“Telecommunications equipment as well as other household appliances are made of various metals and plastics, which must be safely recycled. With this step we want to provide customers with the possibility to do that conveniently and to make them aware of the importance of recycling”, - E. Gudelyte-Harvey said.

The Company will actively inform customers on possibilities to safely transfer such equipment for recycling through its publications for customers, web sites and online self-service sites.

For several months already, it has been also possible to bring and drop off used batteries and accumulators for recycling into special containers, installed in most customer care centres of TEO. Last year, the Company implemented a waste sorting system in most of its office buildings all over Lithuania. This system enables collecting used plastic and paper.

Sigitas Ashmonas, Director of Commerce of UAB Zhalvaris expects hopes that many of TEO customers will use the opportunity to properly transfer discarded telecommunications equipment. "With this initiative we want to strengthen waste sorting habits in the society and strive that as many no longer used equipment items as possible are recycled, thus reducing the use of natural resources", - S. Ashmonas said.

If people collect large amounts of waste equipment, UAB Zhalvaris will come to peoples’ homes and    collect them. For more information about waste collection sites and the types of collectible waste, customers can call the company’s toll-free line at 8 800 00653.

Implementing various environmental initiatives, since the beginning of 2008 TEO has been carrying out the project Save Resources and Change Yourself.
