OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2010. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has withdrawn a project of gas pipeline from Igdir (Turkey) to Nakhchivan (Azerbaijan) from the list of priorities.

Vagif Aliyev, the head of the SOCAR Investment Management Department, says that the project is not withdrawn from agenda but simply postponed.

“It is not such an urgent matter to realize it hastily. The Nakhchivan autonomy is supplied with gas due to existing scheme as well,” he emphasized.

In September 2009 it was expected to establish a group of specialists to prepare the project. The idea of this project was discussed for the first time during negotiations held on 8 August 2009 about commercial issues of co-operation in gas industry between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Within the project it was also planned to construct a compressed natural gas storage.
