OREANDA-NEWS. March 1, 2010. The Uptime Institute has awarded Accredited Tier Designers endorsement to three CROC data center design engineers. Accredited Tier Designer is given in recognition of enhanced understanding and practical knowledge of the Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification System (I-IV) which is the international data center site infrastructure benchmarking standard. Three CROC data center design engineers attended a three-day course in the United States which was followed by an examination. The fact that the Accredited Tier Designers have received direct training from the Uptime Institute means that they are fully prepared to avoid design errors that result in needless cost and complexity of data center infrastructure. As a result, CROC now offers a cost-effective data center deployment service to its clients in Russia.

“The Uptime Institute’s Accredited Tier Designer is an educational curriculum and professional designation exclusively for data center design engineers. Specifically, Accredited Tier Designer addresses the common Tier misconceptions that lead to overinvestment and underperformance in data center designs. Three of CROC’s engineers have successfully passed the course. There are more Accredited Tier Designers at CROC than any other design firm in Russia. CROC’s investment clearly demonstrates their commitment to responding to their clients’ requests for high-availability data center solutions,” said Julian Kudritzki, Vice President, Uptime Institute.

“Data center is a large scale investment project where the Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification System protects the investments made and ensures business stability. In over 25 countries, companies strive to attain Tier Certification in order to guarantee absolute reliability to customers such as financial and telecommunication companies, businesses which build and sell data centers, and hosting/data center outsourcing providers. We are ready to deliver the services required to build cost-effective data centers to our customers and bring Russian based data centers up to international standards,” said Ruslan Zaedinov, Director of Data Center Division, CROC.

To attain Tier III or IV data center certification is a unique accomplishment. The official Tier certification process ensures against ‘self-certifications’, which are often highly inaccurate, sometimes by as many as two Tiers. At this time, there are no Tier Certified data centers in Russia. However, CROC engineers are currently preparing a corporate data center for Tier III Certification. “This is a site with total floor space of 75,000 square feet designed to host 720 racks with a power supply of up to 8 MW, a capacity sufficient for the Vatican, as an example,” noted Dmitry Khoroshikh, Data Center Manager, CROC. “It’s very likely that it will be the first Tier III data center in Russia.”

The fact that the Uptime Institute has awarded CROC engineers with ‘Accredited Tier Designers’ accreditation means that CROC is now fully qualified to prepare its customers’ data centers for Tier certification in accordance with Uptime Institute standards.
