OREANDA-NEWS. March 09, 2010. Head of Cabinet Council of Russia Vladimir Putin gave orders to allocate to state corporation on nuclear power "Rosatom" 1.1 billion rubles (36.6 million US dollars) for scientific and research and development work works (R&D) on development of supercomputers and grid technologies

In total in the framework of the tree projects, 1.928 billion rubles (64 million dollars) will be allocated for the corporation.

"Rosatom" will obtain 430 million rubles (14 million dollars) for R&D on creation of transportation and energy module based on nuclear power motor installation of megawatt grade. More 398 million rubles (13 million dollars) the state corporation will receive for "Organization of production of new radiopharmaceuticals and medical products and forming of services network on rendering of high-technology medical aid".


Russia started creation of supercomputers after 2000. At present, the most powerful Russian supercomputer "Lomonosov" is installed in Moscow State University. Its peak performance makes 420 TFLOPS, that enables it to take the 12th place in Top500 rating. Leader of Top500 is supercomputer in Oakridge national laboratory in the USA with peak performance of 2.3 PFLOPS. Grid technology is a computer network that unites computers with various hardware and software systems for solving of complex scientific and mathematics tasks.
